Here are a few comments these participants wrote on their evaluations:

“The Learning Circles made me more open to change and
I am now more appreciative of all that I have.”

“I feel this process is transformational; it can result in a whole new context for living!”

“I am eating better. Much better.”

“They gave me an awareness and appreciation of others
and their struggles and that I have so much to be thankful for.”

“While appreciating the physical abilities that I do have, I became
acutely aware of my abandonment of an exercise program…
I have found immediate benefit to returning to exercise.”

“It was good to be able to hear different perspectives that
opened up my thinking. I gained a new level of awareness.”

About the Learning Circles

Appreciative Living Learning Circles are based on the principles of Appreciative Living created by Jackie Kelm, which is essentially a positive, strength-based approach to creating personal change. The Learning Circles were created out of a collective vision created by over 70 people from 6 countries who wanted to see these ideas spread into the world. Many of these original visionaries are now part of the over 50 facilitators currently running Appreciative Living Learning Circles across the globe.

The NMSS Ohio Chapter Learning Circle Trial

The NMSS Ohio Buckeye Chapter is doing 4 trial runs of the Learning Circles in May 2010 in Mentor, Parma, Fairfield Park, and Beechwood. The groups will meet once a week for 4 weeks, for 90 minutes each time.

There will also be a kick-off workshop with Jackie Kelm on Saturday May 1 at the MS office in Independence. This is an excellent opportunity for you to learn about Appreciative Living in an intimate setting with the author herself, and facilitator training will follow.

A follow-up session will be held Saturday June 5, 2010, from 10:00am-noon, which will include a mini workshop on an area of interest chosen by participants. Jackie will ask for feedback and improvement suggestions for the Learning Circles as well. You will have an opportunity to discuss your experience and get questions answered in an intimate setting.

Participant Requirements

In order to be a participant, you need to be a member of the NMSS Ohio Buckeye Chapter or a caregiver of someone in the chapter, and agree to do the following:

  • Attend each of the 4 weekly sessions in May. (Dates and time to be determined)
  • Make a good-faith effort to do the required reading and short exercises assigned each week
  • Complete a short survey at the beginning, and one at the end to evaluate your experience and share suggestions for improvement.
  • Take good care of the books and materials you are provided, and return them at the end of the trial.

To Register:

Call the Ohio Buckeye Chapter at 1- 800- 344-4867

This trial program will be filled on a first-come basis. If you are interested, we suggest registering right away to secure your spot.

What happens after I register?

You will be assigned to a group, and given dates and times for meetings. Materials will be provided at the kick-off meeting May 1, or at the first group meeting if you cannot attend the kick-off.

This Stuff Really Works!

"The exercises soon became a wonderful part of my day, setting it up in a positive and grateful way that carried throughout the day.

When I am running late and do not do them, my day seems to be off track and full of challenges."
